EBHB developed the Trauma-Informed Coaching Program based on the Community Resiliency Model:
• Six Wellness Skills – tailored to the sports and coaching environment.
• Pilot with six Butte College Coaches – December 2019.
• Offered to the Sports Organizations – three workshops offered spring 2020.
• Converted to a virtual workshop March 2020 with two offerings.
Training Outline & Learning Outcomes
The Community Resiliency Model (CRM) goal is to help create a “trauma-informed” and “resiliency-focused” communities that share a common understanding of the impact of trauma and chronic stress on the nervous system and how resiliency can be restored or increased using this skills-based approach.
CRM® Skills Training introduces the six wellness skills designed to help adults and children learn to track their own nervous systems in order to bring the body, mind, and spirit back into greater balance.
As a result of this training, coaches will learn how:
● Students respond to trauma and stressful experiences in similar ways.
● Students are resilient – they are able to restore balance in their lives after traumatic experiences.
● To apply the six CRM wellness skills with students who are dealing with post-traumatic stress.
Coaches will leave the training room with a global understanding of how our nervous system reacts against traumatic or stressful experiences, and with specific tools to help youth bring back the nervous system into what we have called the Resilient Zone, or OK Zone. Leaving coaches and their students empowered to experience a greater sense of control when performing sports & when dealing with adverse situations in daily life.
1) Understanding Trauma & its importance when working with youth:

c) The Survival, Limbic, and Cortex areas of the brain and their role in understanding trauma experiences and post-traumatic stress.
d) The impacts of trauma and chronic stress on the nervous system.

2) Understanding Resiliency – Restoring Resiliency in the Students.
a) Resiliency definition: the other side of the story.
b) The Resiliency Zone
c) How Resiliency can be restored and expanded: soothing & strengthening tools
3) Introducing the core 3 Community Resiliency Model Skills: Tracking, Resourcing & Grounding.
a) The importance of the skills and how they fit in the bigger picture.
b) How to practice them in ourselves.
c) Common obstacles and how to overcome them.
1) Introducing the other 3 Community Resiliency Model Skills: Body Movement, Help now! Strategies, & Shift and Stay.
a) How to practice them in ourselves.
b) Common obstacles and how to overcome them.
2) Strengthening toolbox: how to make our Resiliency Zone wider.
a) Resiliency pause & storytelling when helping youth.
b) Getting strategic in how we take care of ourselves. Common practices and how to create a wellness routine.
3) Practicing the Six Wellness Skills – hands-on.
1) Applying the Six Wellness CRM Skill with students:
a) Survival Brain Vs Learning Brain: understanding the challenges.
b) How to develop rituals in order to have the skills available when most needed. Both soothing & strengthening tools and skills.
c) The power of practice and repetition: how we create new neuro-pathways.
d) Applying the skills with youth: hands-on practice.
